We’ve reached episode 50 of our Morning Mindset series. Once more, it is time for some self-assessment. It’s time for a gut check. During the last 10 weeks have you made any adjustments in your day to day life? Have you initiated any improvements in your day to day routine?

Many of you likely came late and have not been listening since the beginning of the show. This is a good opportunity to go back to the start and listen louder. Everyone should listen closely to the 14 episodes dealing with Leadership Traits.

*Professor Paul*

Hello and welcome back. We’ve reached a bit of a milestone, at least for the Morning Mindset podcast. This is episode 50! That’s right we’ve been doing this show now for, 10 weeks. 5 times a week for the last 10 weeks. So wow, I know it's gone fast, hasn’t it? If you’ve been with us the whole time you’ll be like “It’s been 50 already?” yes it has, and once more it’s time for Self-Assessment. Yes, it is time for a gut check. During the last 10 weeks, have you made any adjustments to your day-to-day life?

-

I’m not trying to say you were screwed up and didn’t know what you were doing. But let’s be honest with ourselves. 10 weeks of Morning Mindset, and I’m doing this for a reason. Have you initiated any, not all, any improvements in your routine? Now many of you came in late and that’s fine, you haven’t listened to every show. This may be a good time or a good opportunity for you to go back, and start listening louder. Everyone in the audience should listen closely to the 14 Episodes dealing with Leadership Traits. That’s right, the USMC Leadership Traits, and as I said when we started that, there are people who will go out to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars to attend professional leadership seminars.

-

You know the Zig Ziglar seminars, and they’ll pay a lot of money to sit down and learn about leadership traits. What we did in episodes 18-31, we had the 14 USMC Leadership traits one at a time, we talked about them in detail. I learned these back in the Marines Corps days, trying to become a Lance Corporal, and every Marine from day 1  is trained to be a leader. So if you have come in the last few weeks, great I’m glad you’re here, but go back and listen to 18-31, the 14 USMC leadership traits.

-

When we talk about Self-Assessment, I’m genuinely serious. I want you to sit down and think about your life, career goals, what you want to accomplish. Is there anything you want to accomplish? Do you have goals? I think it was the first week of the show, we talked about setting goals. Did you set any goals, have you achieved any of them, and are you closer to achieving them than you were before. If so, fantastic. But it’s also gut check time.

-

If you are not any closer to achieving your goals, or you didn’t set any, why? What is holding you back? Why did you make the conscious decision to ignore Goal Setting? Was it because the time, or you had nothing in mind, or you thought you were doing fine? What I want you to do today is I want you to sit down, and honestly examine your situation. Why did you start listening to this podcast? Was it because you needed something to do while you’re drinking your coffee? Because you needed something to listen to as you’re going back & forth to work? If that’s the case, fantastic. I’m glad to be of service.

-

But did you have a goal in mind when you started, and have you taken any positive and proactive steps to improve your career situation, family situation, whatever it happens to be. Things don’t just fix themselves overnight, remember we talked about weeds, saplings. Did you pull any of those weeds, prune any of those saplings that were stealing your strength. Sometimes weeds are bad habits, and sometimes weeds are people! I know that’s not nice, not a nice thing to say. But sometimes there are people in our loves who act as weeds.

-

They suck up all the good oxygen in the room and instead of helping us grow, they hold us back. Sometimes we need to take an honest Self-Assessment and say, “Maybe I don’t need to be around these people, because instead of helping me grow and become a better person, maybe they’re the devil on my shoulder telling me to quit.” There are people who, when you try to achieve, there are C Students who look around and see that you’re trying to achieve, and that makes them look bad. So you’re trying to talk you out of it.

-

They’ll try to talk you out of it, say “Why are you working so hard, who are you trying to impress?” Well I’m not trying to impress you, because you’re a C Student and you’re happy with being a C Student and I wanna be an A Student. I want to be in the top percent of my class. I don’t want to be Average. We are not here to be average, you were not put here on Planet Earth to be average, to be a normal person. That’s a default, it just happens on its own. Now about a week ago, I put out a question to you guys, I asked if you’d be interested in a Study Guide. A written guide that deals with, what we talk about here every day, but is put down in a daily devotional, study guide format.

-

The vast majority of you who responded said yes, you would like to have a Morning Mindset study guide. Well here’s the trick, someone’s going to have to write and prepare it, and guess who that somebody is! It’s me. So I’m gonna tell you guys something, I’m looking at my schedule here and this is a Friday episode, so on Monday you are not going to find a brand new episode of Morning Mindset. What I’m going to do is I’m going to use the time I usually use recording this program, and use it to assemble and compile the material for a Morning Mindset book/study guide.

-

The plan is, as it sits right now, is to make it available as a Kindle & paperback. I’ve already laid the groundwork, don’t worry. But I can’t, or it’ll be easier if I don’t have to, assemble this show and show notes, and write the book at the same time. So if you haven’t listened to episode #1, maybe you did and that’s fantastic. But if you didn’t, go back to the beginning, I believe they should all be available [on iTunes]. If they’re not you can go to MorningMindsetPodcast.com and they’ll be there.

-

If nothing else, during this next week if you do nothing else, I want you to listen to the Leadership Traits. If you have great, but go back and listen to one or two a day. So Self-Assessment Time, during the last 10 weeks have you made any adjustments? Have you set any goals? Have you initiated any improvements in your routine? So I can tell you this, even though there won’t be any new episodes of Morning Mindset as I work ever so diligently on the study guide

-

So this episode of Morning Mindset is brought to you by a book called “Dad Rules: Wit and Wisdom from a Dad to Whom it May Concern”. Dad Rules is a collection of short tales, witticism, and heartfelt advice. If you have a dad, are a dad or know a dad, that book is for you. Pick it up for a dad, give it to him as a gift. Alright folks, you have your assignment, drive on. I am Paul Markel, and I’ll talk to you again, real soon.
